During the 2007-2008 academic year, the Women at Queen Mary Project staged an Exhibition in The Octagon, located in the Queen's Building on the Mile End Road.

Women at Queen Mary marked 125 years of Westfield College and 120 years of Queen Mary College. The Exhibition and other related events celebrated these anniversaries and the achievements and contributions of QM's women as students and as teachers, and in their professions within and beyond the College.

The Exhibition opened on 4 October 2007 with a Roundtable Event, featuring several generations of alumni from the four colleges that underpin Queen Mary, University of London. You can listen to the Roundtable discussion via the Virtual Exhibition.

Items presented in the Exhibition dated back to the 1850s, and included archival materials and artefacts. Items came from all four institutions and beyond. Most of the items, and many more featured on the Virtual Exhibition, are from Queen Mary's own College Archives.

Interactive elements at the Exhibition included recorded interviews and dramatisations which brought the history of the College to life. You can listen to these online, via the Women's Voices virtual tour.

Visitors to the Exhibition included current students and staff, alumni from all four colleges, and groups from the local community and beyond.

Visitors commented that the Exhibition was 'enjoyable and inspiring', 'thought-provoking and informative', and that 'the breadth of research is amazing' and 'the images are fantastic'.

For those who missed the exhibition, you can can still experience Women at Queen Mary by visiting the Virtual Exhibition now.

The Exhibition is available to travel in whole or part. If your organisation is interested in mounting the Women at Queen Mary Exhibition, contact us.
